This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific individual eligibility requirements in accordance with VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Approval, award amount (up to $200,000) and eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after complete review of the EDRP application. OR The completion of coursework equivalent to a nursing degree in a MSN Bridge Program that qualifies for professional nursing registration constitutes the completion of an approved course of study of professional nursing. Students should submit the certificate of professional nursing to sit for the NCLEX to the VA along with a copy of the MSN transcript. General Medical/Surgical Unit (7B) 7B is a 19 bed medical-surgical inpatient unit that specializes in post-operative care, post-stroke care, chronic illness, and neurology. 7B works closely with many specialty services such as general surgery, urology, neurology, ENT, plastics, and orthopedics. 7B houses the Epilepsy Center of Excellence, in which there are three beds that have the capability to monitor Veterans for seizure activity aiding in the diagnosis and treatment for epilepsy. The unit also has the capability to perform cardiac monitoring. Staffing on average is 4 nurses and 2 nursing assistants on the night shift, 7 nurses and 3-4 nursing assistants on the day shift and 6 nurses and 2-3 nursing assistants on the pm shift. 7B exemplifies strong teamwork among nursing staff while working closely with the interdisciplinary team. 7B staff provide acute level nursing care and is intricately involved in the interdisciplinary approach in meeting patient needs. This systematic process is applied to all patients with a goal of care to restore the Veteran to maximum function, prevent further decline, maximize independence, and/or provide comfort as necessary. Discharge planning is an essential component of our nursing practice and an interdisciplinary approach for teaching and discharge planning assures continuity of care for the Veterans we serve.
