The Coding Manager is responsible for leading and supervising the health information management coding staff. Establish coding policies that comply with coding standards. Develop and implement training, auditing, and continuing education programs for the coding staff. Oversees the workflow ensuring all records are coded within established timeframes. Manages DNFB. Ensures systems are updated.
Education:
Minimum - High School or Equivalent. Preferred - Associate's Degree in Health Information Management, Nursing, or other related field.
Experience:
Required - 5 or more years working coding in an acute care setting.
Training/License:
Required - Medical Terminology and Coding courses. Preferred - Advanced Medical Terminology and Anatomy/Physiology. Knowledge of automated coding/abstracting systems. Required - Clinical Coding Specialist (C.C.S.), Registered Health Information Technologist (R.H.I.T.) Registered Health Information Administrator (R.H.I.A.) or Certified Professional Coder (C.P.C.).
Other:
Required - Working knowledge of computer systems especially PCs and networked environments. Knowledge of alphabetical, numeric, and terminal digit filing systems. Ability to interact professionally with all levels of hospital personnel, especially the medical staff. Basic administrative skills (filing, data entry, answering telephone) Preferred - Must be able to prioritize work and meet deadlines.
