M Health Fairview is a large healthcare system with five distinct NICUs within the Minneapolis/St. Paul metro area. The NICU at University of Minnesota Masonic Children's Hospital (Minneapolis) is a 75-bed level IV NICU, the highest level of intensive care for neonates, and the largest NICU in our system. Our staff has extensive specialized training and experience to provide stabilizing and life-saving care for sick newborns as young as 22 weeks.
This fast-paced NICU environment thrives on a collaborative multi-disciplinary care approach, including an integrated neonatal therapy model with all infants and families. The other four NICUs are located in our community hospitals of St. Johns (Maplewood), Southdale (Edina), Ridges (Burnsville), and Woodwinds (Woodbury).
This position will afford an OT the exciting and unique opportunity to work exclusively in the NICU setting, serving patients of a variety of complexities and diagnoses, as well as the ability to be a part of a large team of highly skilled and dedicated system NICU OTs. More details below:
1.0 FTE position authorized for 80 hours per pay period
Schedule of T, W, TH, F and 1 weekend per month
System role and will float between the 5 NICU sites

The occupational therapist partners with the patient and family while performing the Evaluation/Re-evaluation
Gathers pertinent data
Determines treatment diagnosis
Develops an individualized plan of care through coordination with the patient and family
Analyzes data to identify needs and potential risks
Determines prognosis for recovery
Establishes individualized goals with patient and/or caregiver
Individualizes plan of care considering developmental level and cultural differences
Implements and modifies plan of care based on reassessment and patient response
Coordinates care and communicates effectively with interdisciplinary team for all aspects of patient care
Establishes appropriate discharge plan
Partners with patients and families to provide skilled intervention
Implements plan of care
Alters treatment/plan of care to reflect change in patient status and response to treatment
Assesses patient and/or caregiver learning needs and provides appropriate education
Prioritizes tasks and patient care for effective time management
Understands and follows professional licensure/certification requirements
Directs team members and/or supervises students as designated
Pursues personal and professional development to support clinical best practice
Occupational Therapy Licensure in State of Minnesota or temporary license in State of Minnesota
Active Minnesota Basic Life Support Certification
Masters Degree in Occupational Therapy
Greater than 2 years experience in a level 4 NICU setting
Previous experience in an NICU or Special Care Nursery
Demonstrated experience with infant feeding
Passion to advance programming resulting in improved outcomes
Certification with the National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy
Certified in Neonatal Therapy and/or Neonatal Touch and Massage
