This Health Technician vacancy exists in the Orthopaedic / Podiatry Clinic and is responsible for performing a variety of duties in support of the administrative and clinical operations of the organization. The Health Technician (Medical Assistant) performs duties related to the receipt, intake, and indexing of health and administrative information, The Health Technician duties are as follows: Escorts patients to exam rooms, prepares patients for examination, prepares documents needed for signature, prepares equipment and materials needed by physicians, and assists physicians during procedures whenever necessary. Familiarizes the patient with the procedure, including positioning, draping, prepping and sterilization of area Lays out surgical instruments and materials required by physician and insures that necessary instruments and materials are available when needed. Performs venipuncture including proper collecting, labeling, handling; and delivering of blood specimens to the laboratory. Ensures patient safety during treatment by continuous observation, monitoring and reporting to prevent complications and intervenes in the event of complications. Coordinates return appointments for patients as directed by the physician. Possesses knowledge of proper handling and pre-cleaning of reusable medical equipment (RME's) Checks expiration dates of medications and supplies. Assumes responsibility for checking all instruments and equipment for needed repairs, maintenance and replacement. Standard 12-lead EKGs, routine Maintenance, store and cleaning of EKG equipment. Blood glucose analysis, i.e., using the blood glucose monitoring instrument, reporting and recording results appropriately, and calibrating, cleaning, and maintaining the instruments. Logs Temperature and Humidity of the RME's storage room. Reinforces patient education, instructs patients in sound health practices.
