JOB SUMMARY
Operates a magnetic resonance scanner to obtain images used by physicians in the diagnosis and treatment of pathologies. RESPONSIBILITIES
Prepares and positions patients and selects anatomic and technical parameters accurately to produce cross-sectional images of the body. Performs patient pre-screening, scheduling, and education related to the examination. Enters and monitors patient data, transfers images from disk to magnetic media to produce the transparency, and develops film in an automatic processor. Follows radiation safety procedures and guidelines. Performs MRI procedures utilizing a variety of frequencies, planes and techniques. This position does not utilize ionizing radiation in the performance of imaging examinations. Collects pertinent patient history and document on requisition. Completes pre-MRI screening questionnaire to assess suitability for magnetic environment. Starts intravenous access as needed, and perform intravenous injections using proper technique. Understands how to treat patients with infiltrated IV sites. Maintains proper oxygen therapy on patients who require oxygen. Maintains skills required to change oxygen tanks. Must be familiar with the use of masks and nasal canulae. Adjusts rate of O2 flow with mask/nasal cannula according to written physician orders. Secures, transports, and secures e-cylinders. Recognizes and responds to emergencies and life-threatening situations. Promotes MR safety through education of personnel and physicians and monitors environment for potential hazards.
Qualifications:
LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION/REGISTRATION Certification Required: ARRT- MR, or obtain MR certification within 2 years of hire/transfer date. Certification Required: Basic Life Support (BLS) - American Heart Association. EDUCATION Required: Graduate of an accredited radiology or accredited MRI program. WORK EXPERIENCE Required: None Preferred: One (1) year experience as a MR Technologist.
