The Duke Raleigh Eye Surgery Center is a hospital based ambulatory surgery center located on the Duke Raleigh Hospital campus at 3300 Executive Drive. This specialty surgical platform will open in February 2020 with 3 procedure rooms and focus on outpatient ophthalmology surgery, performing over 3400 patients annually. Plan and provide advanced and/or specialized nursing care for patients in accordance with guidelines established within the Discipline of Nursing Clinical Ladder Program; participate in educational activities departmental committees, research projects or other health related projects as assigned. Provides nursing services to patients and families in accordance with the scope of the RN as defined by the North Carolina Board of Nursing. Job Duties of this Level - Identify care needs for patient populations at the unit level. Provide leadership in the development of standards of care, patient/family education and staff education to address the needs of specific populations.
- Participate in educational activities, departmental committees, research projects and other health-related projects as assigned.
- Provide direction and guidance in the proper use, care and control of material resources; appraise quality and effectiveness of material and equipment and communicate to responsible individuals.
- Anticipate potential safety concerns in the environment of care and intervene.
- Guide the professional growth of others at the unit level through precepting, role modeling, coaching and/or mentoring.
- Provide leadership at a unit level for initiatives designed to improve the quality of care or clinical outcomes for populations of patients and growth of others.
- Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.
Knowledge, Skills, Education, and Experience Required: - Requires graduation from an accredited BSN or Associate's Degree in Nursing or Nursing Diploma program. All registered nurses without a Bachelor's degree in Nursing (or higher) will be required to enroll in an appropriate BSN program within two years of their start date and to complete the program within five years of their start date.
- Requires four years of appropriate clinical experience to include at least one year as a Clinical Nurse II, Clinical Services Nurse II, or Ambulatory Care Nurse II at DUHS. External applicants may not be hired into this classification.
- In addition to the education and experience noted above, applicants must meet all requirements set forth by the Nursing Clinical Ladder Program for the level IV.
Licensure, Certification or Registration Required: - Current registration with North Carolina State Board of Nursing as a registered professional nurse OR current compact RN licensure to practice in the state of North Carolina required.
- BLS (or higher) certification required.
- Professional specialty certification (preferred).
